Jack & Gin is situated on the historical Burscough Wharf. In the late eighteenth century the Leeds/Liverpool Canal Line was completed and this created a need for development in Burscough as it was one of the most important canal towns in Lancashire. Burscough was a staging post for packet boats travelling between Liverpool and Wigan.
The traffic on the canal kept growing throughout the nineteenth century and boats carried anything from coal for the Lancashire coalfields as well as grain for Ainscough’s Flour Mill.
It is impossible to exaggerate the importance of the canal to Burscough at that time. This is why we are happy to have Jack & Gin in such a Historical venue by the canal.
